In an effort to enhance transparency and security in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, authorities have decided to mandate the installation of GPS tracking devices in all vehicles utilized during the electoral process. This measure aims to ensure the integrity of the voting process by monitoring the movement of vehicles to prevent deviations from designated routes and any potential tampering. The decision comes in response to previous allegations of tampering with crucial election materials, such as Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs), during transportation from distribution centers to polling stations.

With GPS tracking implemented, authorities will have real-time monitoring capabilities to detect any irregularities or unauthorized detours taken by election vehicles. This initiative not only serves to deter potential malpractices but also enables swift intervention in case of any attempted theft or tampering en route. By leveraging technology to bolster election security, the Election Commission aims to preemptively address concerns and ensure a fair and transparent voting process during the multi-phase elections scheduled to commence on April 19 in West Bengal.
